What is Apples, Honey and a Little Green?
A sweet new year meetup, Jews in Weed style. Dipping apples in honey is how Jewish families wish each other a sweet year at Rosh Hashanah, so on September 18, between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we brought trays of sliced apples and a stack of honey packets to Revelry at Pier 36 and started handing them out.
It turned out to be a great icebreaker. An apple slice and a honey packet is an easy way to start a conversation, and it gave plenty of people a quick introduction to a Jewish New Year tradition along the way.
What did it look like?
A sunny afternoon on the pier, a huge crowd moving between tents and booths, foil trays of apples held over people's heads, and a lot of big smiles. One friend even posed with a copy of High Times next to the apple tray.
Thank you to everyone who stopped, took a slice and wished a stranger a sweet year. That is exactly what this community is for.
What is next on the calendar?
Next up is the Bagel Bash at Hall of Flowers NYC on October 21, the monthly pre-Shabbat call, and MJBizCon in Las Vegas in December. Every date is on the community calendar.
